Do I need to check my timing chain?

Yeah...my catalytic converters and looked fine. Gonna sound dumb but I even took it off for a drive to see if it helped and it didnt

1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ is running very poorly

O2 sensors are NTK and the others were just standard at oreillys. No check engine light at all.

Do I need to check my timing chain?

No I bought it over a year ago. It started about a month and a half, thought the fuel pump was going out. Changed it, all good. Gradually started feeling more and more gutless. I’ve checked tested and replaced anything that could possibly make it run this bad. Finally checked the timing and it’s...

Do I need to check my timing chain?

I tried adjusting the distributor. They’re computer controlled on the 98’s. It just wouldn’t go back to where it should. It was either backwards a hair or forwards an inch. And it wouldn’t even start in the other position. Couldn’t get it to go right where I wanted. That’s why i think it’s time...

Do I need to check my timing chain?

Yeah by putting a breaker bar on the crankshaft? After I have the cover removed?

Do I need to check my timing chain?

Also I can’t really feel for the TDC with my finger as I have A/C and I really am trying to not tear everything down but am willing to open it up and look at the timing chain if anyone could chime in on it. It’s only got 156k miles but when it started it was 100+ outside and I was driving 70...

Do I need to check my timing chain?

So after a long line of trying to fix it..I finally caught something. I decided to look at the timing on my 98 4.0 and after getting the marker on the bearing to the 0 according to the manual and the rotor should be facing the #1 on the distributor cap. Well it wasn’t, it’s about 1 1/2” past it...

1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ is running very poorly

Update: New remanufactured OEM injectors came in. So far, sounds a lot better. Actually sounds like all cylinders are firing right but the computer may need to adjust more now that they are all operating correctly. Starts right up without hesitation now, doesn’t have to crank for awhile. I’ll...

1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ is running very poorly

Yes sir. I’ve started recording the day at while driving to catch what’s happening. I got a new set of OEM remanufactured injectors that should be here Saturday. It’s possible I have a leaky injector, that’s the only thing I can think of anymore. If these don’t work it’s going home and I’m...

Could my fuel injectors be leaking?

No sure if there is one in the regulator or not. It’s a delco pump. Pretty sure that’s what it was. Basically the same as the Bosch as far as what I could get. No one had Bosch anywhere

Could my fuel injectors be leaking?

Right now, like every 3 days or something. My gas mileage has dropped drastically in the past week. Injectors should be in Saturday and we’ll see

Could my fuel injectors be leaking?

Ohhhh I thought coil packs started for the wranglers in 01! My bad. It’s all trial and error and if you have a good multimeter then it’s a lot of testing lol it’s been doing it for a while but this past week has just been miserable, never been this bad before. Maybe it’s the cold weather, I...

Could my fuel injectors be leaking?

The thing is it’s not even intermittent anymore. It’s just straight running like dog crap and getting miserable gas mileage right now. If these injectors don’t work it’s going back home and that’s what’s gonna happen, everything is being taken a part and cleaned

Could my fuel injectors be leaking?

Yeah I’ve already inspected my cat to see. Might crack your distributor cap off and look at the connectors inside. Mine had 156k miles and were plum worn down

Could my fuel injectors be leaking?

Yes, ntk sensors were used. Getting accurate and good readings. Not that I’m aware of, I did have an exhaust leak but it was fixed. Also put a new exhaust manifold in around March

Could my fuel injectors be leaking?

sure have. Multiple times. Stays steady at +-49 psi. I ordered injectors already, some that were recommended on another thread that were remanufactured with good reviews. I’ve tried everything. I have cleaned the injectors before but from what I’ve read injectors cause these types of symptoms...

Could my fuel injectors be leaking?

Okay I’ve done everything except the injectors. I think they are leaking causing a bunch of issues. Basically it takes several cranks to start, after awhile of driving it randomly acts like it’s flooding, then I have to pull over (won’t rev past 2k without sputtering) and it feels like I’ve lost...

    Fuel system

I’ve been noticing some threads about the temp sensor. It’s hooked up just into the thermostat housing right? I think mines cracked but I never would’ve thought that could cause these issues. Could be. I’ll swap it with a new one and see.

    Fuel system

1998 Jeep Wrangler- all of a sudden my Jeep goes from closed loop into open loop-drive. It causes it to sputter and nearly die but then goes back to idling normal. Bad TPS?

1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ is running very poorly

I think the switch plate and pick up coil is the same unless I mixed them up haha. I also noticed something while reviewing my data stream and before it basically went into limp mode my fuel system 1 status went from closed loop to open loop drive. (OL-drive) what is that?
