    Replaced my Pads and Rotors

You've contradicted yourself. Brakes convert kinetic energy into heat...plain and simple. A rotor is a heat sink. For a given braking event, X amount of energy will be converted into X amount of heat. If we put that amount of energy into a plain rotor with greater mass and also as...

    Replaced my Pads and Rotors

wrong, it is fact, and the reasons have been pointed out. Reviews are what you make of them...example: I had a customer who for years purchased the cheapest bottom of the barrel pads and rotors they could get their hands on, did their own slotting / drilling / zinc plating, then sold them as...

    Replaced my Pads and Rotors

Having spent the better part of my career in the brake industry, I'm somewhat of an authority on the subject. A plain rotor would have been a better choice for several reason, but one holds more weight than all the others based on the pictures of the old parts: You are clearly in an area when...

Here's why you don't use a plastic throwout bearing (and how clean should I get the bell housing?)

Check it again when you have time...(if you still have it) ... I've seen a whole lot of throwout bearings that sort of "float" on the hub to help it stay aligned and self center through the range of motion of the fork. That might be what you're seeing.

Will my TJ be strong enough to launch / recover boat?

Plenty of guys launch with TJs and YJs at our ramp, but it isn't very steep or slippery.

Here's why you don't use a plastic throwout bearing (and how clean should I get the bell housing?)

That would be disturbing, as National is an aftermarket brand of Federal Mogul (Now DR1V). Every National brand bearing I've bought in the last 20 years has been chinese.

Here's why you don't use a plastic throwout bearing (and how clean should I get the bell housing?)

Sort of...a lot of their ancillary components supplied in the kits are not (hydraulics/TO bearing, etc) sometimes. They are typically very good though, if not OE.

Here's why you don't use a plastic throwout bearing (and how clean should I get the bell housing?)

The old clutch is marked "PHT"... stands for Perfection Hi Test. We sold those for a while while I was at Centric Parts but they were pieces of shit so we stopped. Anything LUK brand will be OE quality or better...I wouldn't think twice about using their clutches.

Can catalytic converters be bad but not throw a CEL?

Yep. Mine was all broken up inside...rattling like crazy. I thought it was just the exhaust hitting the body when I bought it....went and smogged it, passed with great numbers, then a few weeks later did some work on the exhaust to get it off the body and it still rattled, so I pulled the...

Need help with ARB locker re-install

It was late last night so I got back after it this morning after reading through the ARB manual...the "master shim" is not present between the air collar and bearing. A whole bunch of extra shims are present where they shouldn't be. ARB says the shim kit for my unit has been discontinued. I...

Need help with ARB locker re-install

Dude...I have good Google-fu, and even asked ARB for that...and couldn't find it. Thank you sir.

SOLD '97 built TJ for sale

I bought this thing a while back thinking I'd get back into wheeling...and I needed a 3rd vehicle while I tore my truck down to do some repair, but things have changed...got laid off with the COVID 19 thing, and would rather just thin the heard at this point. It's a '97 TJ...sahara I...

Need help with ARB locker re-install

It's not right. I will post pics tomorrow, but for now....from drivers side to passenger side, from housing casting to housing casting.. 2 shims that appear to show some bronze with grease grooves...old clutches from something that happened to be the right size to use as shims 3 oh.2.thin...

Is generic green coolant okay, or will it cause damage to my TJ?

I will ask you this...given the following... (quoted from the document you posted) IAT stands for "inorganic acid technology", OAT stands for "Organic Acid Technology".... It can be one or the other, not both. There isn't a single product that can meet both specs. How can this miracle...

Is generic green coolant okay, or will it cause damage to my TJ?

No, it's not. The adults are talking...please sit down. To the OP...different chemistries exist for different materials, different service intervals, different anti-cavitation properties based on waterpump and coolant passage designs...etc... which is why there are almost as many types of...

Need help with ARB locker re-install

Tore everything apart to change axle seals...and it's been a shitshow ever since. I've set up plenty of diffs, but never an ARB....I understand that ARB wants considerably more preload than others on the carrier bearings. When I tore this thing down, there was a "master shim"...big thick...

Can I use a 2005 TJ gauge cluster on my 1997 TJ?

I'm pretty sure on the 4.0L the temp gauge changed from a sender to a switch at some point...the 4 cylinder may have too. I'd check with the dealer for part number or call some gauge cluster rebuilders and ask that question. Additionally, that's not a legal swap. If you have emissions...

My 42RLE overheated: I screwed up big time

Sorry, I've been away. Need to figure out how the water got in there. What probably happened is that the trans got hot enough to boil the water, which caused the fluid to expand way go crazy out of the vent. If the fluid looked good, I'd probably clean things out as best you can, (couple...
