NV3550 transmission grinds into third gear

On the same line as Rubicon88s post Another thing I found out was the clutch cylinder can go bad and eventually leak keeping the clutch from being depressed properly allowing the trans to continue to spin slightly and could also wear the synchronizers.

NV3550 transmission grinds into third gear

A shifter is intended to “float”, for lack of a better term. Constant pressure, like resting your hand on the shifter while driving, can help wear out the synchronizers. I was trying to figure out why my Jeep was popping out of gear on occasion and realized my shifter boot gets stiff when it’s...

NV3550 transmission grinds into third gear

I have a question. Does anyone think the shifter boot could play a role in shifting problems? Things like popping out of gear, grinding and worn synchronizers. I’ve noticed when the temperature drops the boot gets stiffer and seems to keep pressure on the shifter. I’ve only had it pop out of...

    Another NV3550 transmission whining thread

I know this has been discussed on here before and I’ve searched for similar threads and it seems there are a lot of gremlins in the NV3550 transmissions but I want to be sure and specific its the transmission before I drop the $ on a reman and find out it’s something else. It started with an...

They were still used up until 95 and callled bumpe*%+#. Can I post pictures saying the forbidden word? OH and tell that to the MEN who fought WWll. They were the first to use them.

Time for school. These are “bumperetts” YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS MAGGOT. You’d better know the origin of the Jeep before you post a silly comment like that. 🤪😜

Ok thanks. Will the bumperetts fit in place of the rear bumper? I was thinking of doing that.

Did I overpay for my TJ?

Like said. Nobody can really give an accurate answer without seeing the Jeep in detail. Most of these gentlemen can tell you what to look for and after a while you’ll figure that out also. Posting good clear pictures would be a big help. If your description is correct, no rust and no mechanical...

Sold the TJ and picked up a new JLU

Love the “No Haggle No Hassle price” they put in the add. More like a “No Thank You price” to me.

    Heat issues

Correction. I took a look at it last night when I got home from work and found the knob was cracked and would just spin. I changed the settings with a pliers and ordered a new knob.

    Heat issues

I think I’ve found the problem. I believe it’s the AC, vent, floor, defrost switch. I heard what sounded to be a vacuum leak and moved the switch to floor. The leak stopped but then the switch wouldn’t change settings anymore. The knob just turned smoothly without clicking from setting to...

    Heat issues

I don’t think it’s a heater core issue. I’ve cleaned and flushed it 4 times now. Both hoses are equally very hot and it throws excellent heat when set on defrost and on center vent. But when on defrost/floor and just floor it blows luke warm out passenger side. The hot/cold blend door “seems”...

    Heat issues

Ok. I’ll look for a blockage and let you know if I find one. But it seems to push as much air as the driver side. That’s what puzzles me. I wish I had a diagram of the vent system so I can see what to look for without tearing the dash apart.

I don’t understand it. Air blows out of it but it’s just luke warm. I have to go ove it again this weekend.
