05 Sport build (Mid Life Crisis)

I'm actually impressed with the paint job on the fenders. Can you explain how you did it? I assume you had to sand them down and prep for paint. Did you end up removing them from the Jeep?

    Georgia Jeeper

I think you got a good deal with the low miles and hardtop. I have a Khaki LJ as well, IMO best Jeep ever made.

    Charlotte the '99 Sahara

Holy Crap, I've got to say I'm extremely impressed with this build so far. Doing things the right way, and not going the cheap / easy route. I've considered getting an SYE, but not sure I've got the skill / or nerve to attempt that install. Good job, and can't wait to see what else you do.

Sometimes working on your own vehicle isn't worth it

I will at least consider doing certain installs on my LJ. Most of it is minor maintenance items, but recently swapped in a Ford 8.8 that was built and re-geared for my Jeep. I think the most important thing is having the right tools for the job, otherwise you'll waste time trying to get around it.

    WTB: Shocks for 4'' Lift

Hey All, I'm looking to buy some shocks for a 4" lift. Let me know what you have. Preferably looking for Rancho, Bilstein, or Fox. Thanks!

North Carolina Looking for shop in Charlotte, NC

Freedom 4wd is closed, and not accepting any new work. Their mechanic Scott Schwabe opened his own shop in Iron Station. Scott had re-geared my LJ, and no complaints. He has a lot of experience with Jeeps. Primal 4x4 has a brand new shop off South Blvd, and they are getting into fabrication. I...

North Carolina Dickey Bell trail at Uwharrie

I was just there on the 5th with my JL. I’d love to go back with my LJ next time you go. Too bad I have to wait till April.

2006 LJ mild wobble at 55-60 mph

1000% need new tires. There is a date code stamped on the sidewall of the tire. Rubber that old is pretty dangerous and could lead to a blow out.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee suspension questions

I’m not a 100% positive but based on the height of the Jeep in your first post and that it has a spacer. I’m going to say it’s just spacers and original coil springs. You should be able to take the spacers off and put the strut back in. To my knowledge no lift kit has ever been sold with taller...

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee suspension questions

Actually, I’m not sure how you can get 1” of lift with new coils and spacers. Most budget boost kits are just spacers and minimum net 2” lift. Can you take a pic of the suspension? Check the rear for the spacers on the bottom.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee suspension questions

Maybe there is a part # on the shocks to google search. Sounds like it could be OME. Yes there will be spacers in the back. Not sure without looking to see if it’s on the top or bottom of the spring. Should be really easy to remove as the spring is holding it on.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee suspension questions

Stupid question but what color are the shock boots? If they are a light blue with yellow shocks they are Bilstein. If they are yellow with black boots they could be OME. Rancho 9000xl shocks which are adjustable are probably the best riding shocks I've had. Although if you remove the budget...

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee suspension questions

These budget boosts are just blocks on top of the coils to provide the additional lift. In order to remove you'll have to remove the spring / strut up front and remove the spacer on top and replace back into the Jeep. This is instructions for a Teraflex kit, but same process...

Sold the TJ and picked up a new JLU

I own a JL & LJ and they are two completely different vehicles in my mind. While the LJ isn't as bare bones as my previous YJ, it does give more of a rugged feel. My JL on the other hand is night and day different. It has the 2.0L Turbo and has no issues with the 35s and hauling ass down the...

Track bar bracket hole is wallowed out

Just an update, I received my new bolt and flag nut today from Barnes 4wd and my DW issues are gone. I'm not sure what Jeep was thinking with using a torx bolt for the track bar, but the new bolt made a huge difference. I was able to torque it down properly.

Track bar bracket hole is wallowed out

Thanks for the info here. I just purchased a similar kit by Barnes 4wd to tighten my track bar. The Torx bolt has been stripped. I think it'll be a bit easier to use a hex head bolt instead.

New LJ owner in Charlotte, NC

Their warranty was 3 years unlimited miles. I went through O'Reillys who got the engine from ATK. The warranty covered the labor to reinstall the engine. The blown engine was shipped back to them, and they took it apart first to make sure it was their fault before sending out a new engine. Jeep...

New LJ owner in Charlotte, NC

I went with ATK, and the first engine lasted 600 miles before it spun a bearing. It was replaced under warranty. What have you considered for fuel injectors? I went with South Bay's 24lb injectors.

New LJ owner in Charlotte, NC

Thanks, it isn't horrible, but I know it has been abused in the past. I forgot to mention the oil pan has a nice dent in it to go along with the bent Dana 44. I think I'm set for now with how it currently sits. I'd like to do a few small things such as add a winch, grab bars, and wire up the LED...
