Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

G Gotcha, I’m thinking you’ve got a few options, moving the whole drivetrain forward like you mention in your video, going with a bigger body lift, or trying to hammer the tunnel out or trim that pinch weld out a bit for clearance. If you move things forward though just mind the oil pan...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

What is your measured offset of the crank from centerline? Are you limited by the steering shaft? I’m surprised you are having this many issues with a 15 degree offset already. Can you raise the motor to get it up out of the way? Or is the bell housing hitting the trans tunnel

Sounds great! Awesome to see you got it started. I’m dying for it to cool down here maybe we will have them running around the same time!

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

This product page has some decent info, http://www.zerogravityperformance.com/product/tcm-2650-mechatronic-transmission-controller-6l80e-6l90e-6l50e/ looks like it’s possible to get behind whatever engine, but it’s going to be expensive Edit just caught your latest post one step ahead of me

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

This isn't directed at you at all just giving general info, but IMO the second you start paying out for a ton of TDI 'swap kits' you lose the economical value of doing a TDI swap. All said and done, If i was just adding up the total amount of every part required for building a TDI jeep...

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

I'd be suprised if people weren't up for trading axles, most people are wanting to go deeper to your 4.56 from 3.73 or 4.10. Could save you a bit of money depending (hopefully you don't already have lockers?) then go with a 241 or other.

Correct. At that point you have two ways to lower your final drive ratio, you could regear your axles, or run a larger set of tires. For you: at 65, 70, 75 respectively assuming i got the trans right. 2354 2535 2716 http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

Nice glad you saw the thread, it’s only going quick because I had a few weeks off in March to get about 8 hours of work in each day. Plus a whole lot of planning and parts ordering in the previous months! I tried to make the wiring harness video as comprehensive as possible, there are a few...

Building a diesel powered RHD TJ Wrangler (Picture Heavy)

Hey Grant, I was following your build over on reddit for a little bit too. Loved the kubota build I'd be sad to see it go, but I also love the idea of an ALH too. I posted a couple videos in my build thread on modifying the factory ALH harness yourself to save a load of money. I'm not exactly...

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

for me it was absolutely about fuel economy improvement and having a decently bullet proof build. I have a the 5.3 vortec in my Tahoe and I love the engine too. I know the guys on that off-road recovery channel had the same reasoning as you being in the sand it’s better to have some horsepower...

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

The craziest thing to me is that I can throw in an engine which will have almost 3 times the fuel efficiency of the original motor, but the legal process to actually get this thing approved even in arizona of all places is a total headache. Our emissions standards should be based on per mile not...

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

Ha! But then you don't get to add another project to your stable! Duh, I didn't realize the 4bt was that high of displacement. I don't know anything about those engines or the ISF 3.8 other than the second I read about their weight I stopped considering them for my use. Sounds like it would...

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

Wow! gotcha, I haven't seen any of your posts either but if that's what your going for with the YJ it will become what jeep should have done with the gladiator to begin with. I can't really think of any commonly swapped diesel engines that have a displacement between the 3.0 - 6.0L ish range...

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

We don’t talk about those little guys 🤣 Id personally not be comfortable towing that kind of weight behind a short wheelbase TJ. I’d consider doing an OM606 (can make some POWER) or OM642( can fit into a tight spot, 450 ft.lb with a tune) swap into a 4 door jk frame if I were in your position...

    Brett's '97 TJ VW 1.9L TDi Swap

Haven't been able to do any work on the jeep on account of the weather here in AZ and me not even having a garage to work in. That being said, when things die down for work in a month, my plan is to skip the intercooler for now and just run a direct feed from turbo outlet to inlet. It absolutely...

    Shift Knob Ideas

Correct, I cited the penal code a few posts down from my original post and corrected myself. Not to derail the thread, I still think the hand grenade is an awesome shifter, but no shot I'd risk arrest by taking it into california.

    Shift Knob Ideas

I was pretty sure, but I looked up penal code and it seems as though while dummy grenades made out of metal in California are illegal, they are only able to be tried as an infraction for the first offense. it also also possible from the penal code to be exempted if the grenade is filled with a...
