Some notes on Bilstein 5100 shocks

Hey guys, Im years (almost a decade) late on this forum, but I am considering B8 5100 24-185257 and 24-185264 (the 3 inch lift ones) I currently have Rancho 5000x (the 2.5inches advertised ones) and while their dimensions (up/down travel) are near ideal, they are very soft for my choice of...

Passenger Front Side JKS Spring Rubbing Against Frame

Another update: After some extensive research, I have deduced that I had the whole concept wrong. My pinion was intially at 10 degrees and my driveshaft at 6. I reduced the pinion to 9 but that is still 3 degres higehr than the driveshaft, where it seems it should be equal or slightly lower to...

Thank you for the elaborate explanation

Passenger Front Side JKS Spring Rubbing Against Frame

Hey guys Just an update I checked my lower front arms and they were bang on 16inches long each. My front pinion angle was around 4 degrees off. I adjusted that by equally shortening the upper arms and rotating the axle backwards. This made my pinion have a 3 degree difference to the shaft and it...

Passenger Front Side JKS Spring Rubbing Against Frame

Thanks so much for these details, very helpful. Just FYI, regarding my lift specs, I have a 3inch lift, don't know if this is what you meant or you are looking for something else, do let me know and I can provide it if it helps put things into context.

Passenger Front Side JKS Spring Rubbing Against Frame

Thanks for your response. I only adjusted the rear pinion angle, didn't attempt to do the front to be honest. I will try to do that next, maybe will solve the problem. Could you share any information/standards related to front pinion angle alignment? what is the rule of thumb, requirement...

Passenger Front Side JKS Spring Rubbing Against Frame

Hey guys, I recently installed a JKS adjustable trackbar (front and rear), upper adjustable control arms (front and rear), JKS swaybar disconnect links, JKS 3 inch springs, and my car already came with lower adjustable terraflex monster arms. I have 33 inch tyres on my car I have aligned both...

Should I go with Rancho 5000x or OME 60048 for my rear suspension on a 3 inch lift? (Measurements included!)

Thank you guys for your responses, I appreciate it. Do you mind sharing your technical reasoning behind it? Is it better to have a more balanced up/down travel than more down travel? I read somewhere that some people prefer to keep more downtravel and if any sacrifice is to be made, it should...

Can anyone help me identify this noise?

I don't have a 2.5 so I cannot relate fully, but I would start with the compressor and the associated parts connected to it, maybe the driving belt as well? Could be a bad bearing or an idler pulley?

Should I go with Rancho 5000x or OME 60048 for my rear suspension on a 3 inch lift? (Measurements included!)

Hey guys I have recently posted about having installed an RS55256 pair of rear shocks on my 3inch lifted TJ (JKS springs), and finding that I need a large bump stop extension to prevent the shocks from bottoming out during normal road driving, as they turned out to be too long (as is the case...

What type of oil do you use?

Hi Hi Jerry! Belated congrats on your son's wedding. I live in the Middle East and the winters are around 20C (68F) and the summers are a scorching 45-50C (113-122F). Would you recommend a 10W-40 oil or is 10W-30 also fine? Additionally, would you advise to use synthetic, or non-synthetic oil?

Are these the wrong Rancho rear shocks for a 3 inch lift?

Also, I hope the below answers your question The current shock (RS55256) rides at 17.5inches length at ride height. Its compressed length is 15.01inches, which i think means I would have only 2.49inches upward travel (17.5-15.01 = 2.49) Extended length is 24.67inches. Therefore, its downward...

Are these the wrong Rancho rear shocks for a 3 inch lift?

Hey jjvw, Thanks for your reply. to match the compressed shock length, I would need around 4 inches of bump stops, which would severely restrict my upwards travel, hence my issue. I would like to know if changing the rear shocks to RS55241 (its characteristics are mentioned in my original post)...

Are these the wrong Rancho rear shocks for a 3 inch lift?

Ah i see what you mean now. I didn't measure that since there was a plastic boot that I did not remove. However the compressed length given by manufacturer (which i double checked and measured) refers to the whole shock length. So when cycling my suspension it showed me that the shock would...

Are these the wrong Rancho rear shocks for a 3 inch lift?

17inches. So i guess 2 more to full compression

Are these the wrong Rancho rear shocks for a 3 inch lift?

Hey guys, looked around in this forum but didn't find an exact same scenario. I have noticed a running pattern however that it seems Ranchos shocks run a little too long in some scenarios. I recently installed RS55255 and RS55256 with my new 3inch JKS springs, thinking my ride would actually sit...
