2003 TJ Dana 30 axle guides

I used a 4ft piece of 3/4 i.d. pipe to knock the seals out.

2003 TJ Dana 30 axle guides

Damn, as usual your explanation makes a lot of sense. I guess I did a bunch of work for no reason. It was still a good experience. Thank you.

2003 TJ Dana 30 axle guides

Hmm, is that not a possibility? The FSM states: "Install axle shaft assembly into the housing and differential side gears. Avoid damaging the axle shaft oil seals in the axle housing." I figured I somehow damaged the seal.

2003 TJ Dana 30 axle guides

I thought the purpose of these rings was to not allow the splines on the axle to damage the diff seals. This one time, at Band Camp, I replaced an axle ujoint. Short time after that I had diff fluid coming out the axle. I had to go in and replace the seal that I knicked. I was more careful...

New control arms (does anyone know how and why my axle shifted?)

A jack under the pinon or spring perch, depending on which way the axle needs to rotate. In this case a bottle jack under the front of the spring perch should line it up.

Low rumble when coming to a stop

I've had the same experience with cupped front tires.

    Severe Handling Issue

Was everything torqued down with the weight of the Jeep on the suspension? It is hard to tell if the rear swaybar bushings have been replaced although the links appear to have been replaced.

Vehicles you don't see on the road anymore

Technically on the side of the road, but cool.

What did you do to your TJ today?

Liquid wrench the exhaust collector bolts before hand. Once I had the fender off, it wasn't that hard to get to the manifold lower bolts. I think there were still one or two that I had trouble getting torqued properly when reassembling. Make sure the intake manifold is flush to the head...

Where can I find a 2000 TJ factory printed manual?

Eighteen years ago, I ordered the FSM and diagnostic manuals from www.techauthority.com. I think they were $80 at that time and you could opt for a cd or printed version.

    Gates idler pulley?

I tried the Gates pulley and the OEM washer was too large to fit in the recessed part of the pulley. I used the Dayco pulley available from Advance Auto.

    Grease for winch

I took a look at the Warn Mid Frame Winch Service Manual. Regarding the sliding ring gear during re-assembly: "Apply a light coat of machine oil to the inside of the gear housing where the sliding ring gear rides. Do not apply grease to the machined surface of the gear housing. This will...

    05 Rubicon shock upgrade

The Rancho RS55128 has a longer compressed length than stock. You will need a little bit more bumpstop if you do not want to damage the shock. I put Ranchos on my stock Sport and have 3.5 inches of stock shaft showing and close to four inches bump cup to pad. My wife left a cul-de-sac and...

Rubicon front driveshaft on a non-Rubicon?

The Rubicon front drive shaft uses two 1330 ujoints for the double cardan assembly and a S44/1330 combo joint at the front axle. A stock 2001 np231 would have a 1310 yoke as would the front axle. As Blackjack said it would take a lot of work . Check out Tom Woods, Adam's or Denny's.
