    I'm guessing it has something to do with Cam, Cam bearing or lifter not pumping up. Is there a trick to getting a lifter to pump up?

    If it all matters, when I put my hand on the valve cover, all I felt was a smooth running engine.

    I can't express the pain that reattaching the intake exhaust caused me. I will look into that. It's a possibility

    Compression test was done and all ok.

    I believe it is a tick. The rag was contained in the valves and above the Piston. I guess my question is, what can I do to get that tick stopped? How long can it take for those lifters to "set in"?

    The valves and head is new. That's all replaced.

    Thanks, it initially started fine but then started the ticking sound. The rods we're bent so I replaced them. The lifters were not expensive so I figured I would replace them to. As for the valves, the rag got wrapped around the intake and exhaust valves. Some of the rag was in the...

    I have a 2004 Wrangler 4.0. I accidentally left a rag in the intake and here I am. I pulled the head, installed new lifters rods replaced the head and torqued it. Now, I'm getting this knock/tick from the engine. Do I need to run this for a while to let the lifters set in or am I just FUBAR?
