Which rear axle is in your TJ?

Had a Dana 35 4.10 with factory locker - broke the spider gears, tore up the axel, and because it is held in with "C" clips, it slid out. Had yo have it towed home. Replaced with a Dana 44 4:56 with Detroit locker, works great. But also had to change the front Dana 30 to 4:56 with no lockers...

    2002 TJ, broken axle

Update. I replaced the rear with a Dana44 w/ Detroit locker and 4.56 ring/pinion. I am having the front Dan 30 carrier and ring/pinion replaced with a 4.56 true track. Still have a week point in front, but should last me a while. No more camacazi hills. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

    2002 TJ, broken axle

There prices have been more than reasonable. Someone stole my break drums from the back of my truck, with all the break components. The gave me (no cost) all. Needed to get back on the road ($200 retail). They offered to install a 4.56 ring/pinion w/carrier for $75 labor. I can't bargain that. I...

    2002 TJ, broken axle

Jerry - you are correct. Finally got a good look at the axel and gears. Spline end broke off, took out the spider gears. Found a Dana 44 with 3.73 ring & pinion to Mach the front. Used, will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for all the input everyone. Excellent place to get an education. And you...

    2002 TJ, broken axle

If I had to assume the chain of events leading up to the situation, I would assume the keeper broke or slipped off, the axel moved out of position and the spline end is now non existent. I have yet to look at the spider gears, since my efforts were superseded by a group of enthusiasts, but I...

    Bad news,won't start..

It never ceases to amaze me when people don't listen or read. What I hear it "cranks" (aka battery ok) but won't start - fuel or spark problems (assuming you have compression in at least one cylinders). Check the fuel delivery. Crack a fitting in the fuel rail (DO NOT OPEN COMPLETELY). Withe...

What does a locker do? Do I need a locker?

Thanks for the clarification. BTW the Warn site is still on line, however I did see kits under the Yukon brand So from what I understand now, do not put any lockers on the Dana 35 (rear) On the front, the Aussie or the ARB Air locker, however the comments on the Air locker were not convincing...

What does a locker do? Do I need a locker?

Please excuse me as aim a newbe to this arena, but considering lockers for my 2002 TJ. From the discussions, I am migrating to Detroit locker on the front Dana 30, with Warn manual hub lockers. For the rear Dana 35, an Eaton electrical locker. Any feedback would be appreciated Sent from my...
