I have a 99 TJ. I want to put in a compass/homelink rearview mirror, but the 97-02 TJ visors only leave 9” of space between the visors. These mirrors are all 10.5”. The 03-06 visors are shorter and leave 11" in between, so I’m researching how to swap in late model visors.
I know that this is not a direct swap. The late model visors won’t just bolt in, so here are my questions:
1. In the famous “visor swap mod” to hide the stickers, the visors are pulled off the rods and swapped right to left. Could I slide my old visors off their rods and slide on 03-06 visors?
2. Could I put 97-02 mounts on 03-06 visors and then move the visor clips outboard to accommodate the shorter visor rod?
I don’t want to change from 99 windshield trim to 03-06 trim. And I don’t want to futz with the mirror and visor every time I want to flip the visor up or down.
