This Jeep came from southern California, and was completely stock until the bigger tires and the small lift I gave it at 59k miles. It has a manual transmission, straight six-cylinder engine, oversize 31x10.50 R15 LT Hercules Avalanche tires, wider 8" Black Rock wheels, one-inch lift via new H&R raising springs, new front and rear Rancho RS5000X shocks, new track bar, new front and rear sway bar links, upgraded front and rear bumpers.
When I found this low mileage TJ four years ago, I thought I would keep it forever. But alas, my family members are not willing to drive a manual transmission. So I had to buy a TJ with higher mileage and an automatic transmission. Now I have to sell this one to pay for that one.
The only known mechanical issue is that the check valve on the fuel pump is not working. This means that the fuel drains back into the fuel tank rather than remaining in the fuel line. So you have to turn the key on for a couple seconds to let the electric fuel pump refill the line before engaging the starter. It does not affect the performance of the fuel pump. I have not replaced the fuel pump for what I think is a very good reason. The OEM fuel pump that the Jeep came with was made by Bosch. The Bosch fuel pump has an excellent reputation for reliability and longevity. They stopped being made for the Jeep Wrangler TJs several years ago. So you cannot get a new Bosch fuel pump to replace this one. The next highest rated one is a Delphi. The great majority of them work reliably. But a small percentage of them fail in a matter of months, and you see these in the reviews. Denso is also rated good, but other brands such as Airtex and Spectra have a high failure rate. I put a Delphi in my 1998 Wrangler five and half years ago, and it has been working fine. Not a bad option for the 2002, but to me it was safer to keep the Bosch, and simply turn the key on for a few seconds each time before engaging the starter. This has been working fine for the four years I have owned this Jeep. Others report doing the same thing long-term without problems.
This Jeep is not perfect (see photos near the end), but it is a really good one. It is located in Buena Vista, Colorado. Willing to show it in Colorado Springs to a serious buyer.
