I have a 2004 jeep tj with the 2.4L and the NV1500 transmission. I am putting a new clutch in it and got to wondering about transmission swaps. I want to stay with a manual and want something stronger that the NV1500. What can I mate to my 2.4? NV3550, NSG379 maybe? And I would like to do a hemi swap in the far future so any transmission that would be good enough to handle the power?

You probably can swap the AX-15 in it's place. It's not 100% bolt up without an adapter, but it is strong and available brand new for a reasonable amount of money. It also has a lot of support for various engine swaps. Adapters are readily available.

I believe you can swap a nv3500 but you’ll need the bell housing from the nv1500 with the 2.4 bolt pattern. Clutch has to be changed to support the input from the 3500. It’s been done and documented. Search.
