My 2006 TJ, 4.0L, 6 speed manual is having power issues. It only happens when I'm not driving particularly well and am in too high of a gear trying to accelerate - the engine cuts out like it's going to stall. But as soon as I let off the gas and downshift the power comes back and it's never actually stalled while driving. The check engine light flashes on when it happens, but it doesn't stay on and there are no codes. Interestingly, it only happens at lower elevations. I live in Pennsylvania and it happens frequently, but I spent 6 months above 5,000' in Idaho and never had the issue at all. Any help please!

Check engine light flashing means there is a severe problem and you need to stop immediately to prevent damage to the Jeep. If it's a misfire it's a bad one, the type that can kill your catalytic converters quick. If there is no code on a scanner it could mean your PCM isn't doing too well. I wouldn't drive it too long like that, the cat is expensive. You might take it to a shop that has a better scanner? There really should be a code stored for this kind of fault.

I can hold it at 3000 rpm when idling without any trouble
