So I have a 1997, 3 speed automatic right and drive from Japan. I was told the 3 speed automatic plays well with a 241 transfer case so I’m looking to move up from my 231.

I’d like to know what all I need to know.

Will any 241 work? Local wrecker has loads of 241 from Jks and a few tjs. Will any year of TJ 97-06 work? Sometimes figment is 91-00 and later tjs are different.
would I need new driveshafts with a different mount?

Cheers

You want a 4:1 low range? If not keep the 231.if you do then you want an 03-06 rubicon case.they are the only ones that plug and play. There is a tag on the back of the case that says if it is a 241 and it's ratio

I think it’s an NP241J. Yes, only from an 03-06 would be simple.

JK versions won't fit. Only '03-'06 as previously stated. You'll need spacers etc. to make it work.

This is what I needed to know. I am familiar with the tags they all have them but most are jks. I’ll revisit and look for an 03-06 Rubi. So I don’t need a different yolk joint for my preexisting 1310 driveshaft?

I already have a 1.25 saavy body lift and drive shafts that accommodate the lengthening.

The np241j has different size ujoints. On the front a 1310 yoke can be installed on the rear i don't know what your options are. Expect to need driveshaft mods, the entire shift linkage from the 241 and wiring changes or just lose the dumb light on the dash that lets idiots know they are in 4x4. Also an electronic speedo correction device since the np241j doesn't use a speedo gear

Doesn’t sound that bad. I know saavy has a cable shifter for it. I already have one for my 231.
Cheers
