If you've never been to Portsmouth, definitely check it out sometime. Lots of stuff to do, historical sites, beaches close by, awesome restaurants, etc.
I am hoping he settles up there when he graduates as a Physical education major....Don't want him to come back down here, taxes and cost of lining are crazy.

Here I go again with just an off the cuff opinion, but if yours is like my 98 4.0 5 speed with 3.07s, I think 4th gear is 1.0 to 1.0 ratio and 5th is about a .7 to one. Seems you can get an idea how it will drive with 4.10s by never shifting into 5th for a little while for how it will do in your "new" 5th gear. 2K rpm is about 68mph in 5th on my stocker and does well down to about 45-50 where I down shift which pulls fine on the highway with gentle grades. My motor does not seem to start lugging until it gets down to about 1500 with a load on it.
My first jeep, but my backside has sat in a lot of diffrent kinds of seats. Yes, I have ran it past 5k a few times with it pulling hard in lower gears, but virtually no one keeps up with me a couple block of an average stop light with normal shifting at 2200-2500 rpm. Might be why they call them 4.0s tractor motors. JMO

Friends don't let friends run 3.07 gears... on any tire size / transmission combo.
Can you live with it? Of course. However, go drive a re-geared TJ and then you'll see what you've been missing.
Truth be told, unless you've driven a re-geared TJ with the proper gear setup, you really won't know what you're missing, so it will seem completely normal.
I'm on 33's with 5 speed manual: "ignorance is bliss". Maybe someday I will re-gear...but I hear ya.
What gear ratio do you suggest?

4.56. Estimates are region dependent but average $1000 per axle.
4.88 would be my suggestion.
Trust me, ignorance is bliss. It won't set in until you actually have it re-geared, then you'll be like, "Wow, what have I been missing!".

Trying to get my mind around this, running 3.07s mostly on the street with the stock sized 255x15 tires on stock Grizzly rims on my 98 4.0 5 speed Wrangler listnening to some people remarking that is not a good combination.
Let's just say a regear to 4.10 for me would be close in these ratios, ok?
My current 1st gear would be close to my new 2nd gear Right?
My current 2st gear would be close to my new 3rd gear Right?
My current 3rd gear would be close to my new 4th gear Right?

I guess I have an oddball vehicle or be an oddball person, but I would not be happy with that for mostly a street every day driver mostly county roads and 65MPH highway, and I am not currently a slouch at the red lights around town, and hold my own being in front of the average driver out here without straining, just normal shifting when it feels right 2200-2700 RPM.
Now I can see running a much larger tire size making a big difference the opposite direction, but that is not what some of us are doing. My 3.07s work well for me. JMO
