Should engage in the same spot. Even when my hydraulic cylinders have gone bad, the clutch still engages at the same spot. The only time that changes is if fluid leaks out and air takes its place. That will definitely alter the position of the clutch engagement.
As mentioned many times, your gearing is your problem. I don't know who decided 4.10 and 33's with the 5-speed is a good combo and started recommending it to everybody, but it isn't.
