4WD light not coming on

Hey everyone, I noticed today that my 4x4 light is not coming on when I pull the lever to engage it. I guess I have two questions, what is the best way to see if it is actually engaging four-wheel drive? and also what could the issue with the light be? Has anyone experienced this before? I drive a 06 X.

It’s likely the switch (or a connection on the way) in the TC, you can jack up all the corners to test 4wd.

If you don’t have enough jack stands, pull out the rear drive shaft and try to drive it. You’ll be in FWD and can confirm it engages.

Yep, probably the switch in the transfer case. Easy to check on the two prong plug. Just take the plug off the switch and short it. If the light comes on the switch needs replacing. If so, use an OEM one as the aftermarket Dormans and Crown ones don't work properly.

Oh, if it is the switch, it is a 7/8" wrench I believe. And be sure to order a new o-ring as well as the OEM switch doesn't come with.

You don't need to drop the skid plate or anything. Slide under from the drivers side behind the skid and reach up.

Hey guys, I am having the same problem but after an accident. I had to replace my front axel housing control arms to is back in alignment. The wrangler is a Saharan so the 373 was gear ratio was harder to find....I was just being lazy and not wanting to swap gears. The replacement had ABS but I removed it since my 99 did not.

any guesses? Did I loose a line somehow? It definately goes int 4H & 4L, but no light. Help please.

Don't forget there's an instrument cluster test to check if it's the bulb or not. YouTube the procedure. If the bulb is good, it's either the switch or wiring.
