I have a 97 TJ that the body of removed from. I've been spraying and loosening bolts for what looks like a full frame off restoration project.
Remarkable enough, I have a frame that seems to be in amazing condition. The very back of the frame on both sides has so little rot that a couple square patches butt welded in will make it solid. The lower frame on both sides just in front of the rear tires has so little rust that a bottom butt welded patch will make solid as well.
I say this only because I have been patiently needle scaling the entire frame and covering every square inch. This way I'm able to thoroughly remove all outside rust to bare metal as well as doing the best I can to remove scale from the inside of the frame. I have a reverse blowing nozzle with directional air flow that has been run in and out several times and has blown out everything in the frame. The plan is to apply Eastman inside frame rust encapsulater to protect that moving forward and I will be applying 2 coats of silver Mastercoat primer to the exterior and over that a coat of Mastercoat AG111.
My Jeep is very stock with the exception of what I believe are 31" tires. I'm replacing all the bushings and mounts on the vehicle...every single one. I put a new 2.5 motor and transmission in it about 4 years ago and found out about 2 years ago that my torques boxes were gone. It's getting 3 new floor pans and all the good stuff to protect the welded and new panel areas. All replacement parts will be stock height.
I've noticed while scaling the front area that ALL of the heavy gage steel is remarkable solid and has cleaned up great.
The issue I have is that the mount that the jounce cup and bumper mount to are gone. after measuring the factory mount it appears to be 5-6 inches. The mount with the jounce cup are about 6 inch total. I can find jounce cups and bumpers all day but no mention of replacing the actual mount that the cup attaches to.
I read from back in 2018 that a guy had the same question and problem. I have had a challenge loading pictures from my phone to the forum so I don't have them available. The recommendation for the poster at the time was to uy a whole new or used shock / spring entire frame support and all that comes with it. That would make sense if I had any rot in the surrounding area, but I don't. The only thing rotted is the mount that the cup fastens to.
I've attached a picture of, I think a quadratek part that appears to be exactly what I'm looking for. I notice that I find different info about it's use, meaning their website mentions "for a 4 inch lift" or some such. All I know is that it wasn't stock. I found the same product listed on other sites and when you apply your specific Jeep, it will tell you "this fits!" or "this does NOT fit!". Well, with my stock info, it says it fits my TJ.
Does anyone have info on replacing this part only since the 2018 post was made? I'm installing new shocks, removing all the springs and control arms to apply 3 coats of Mastercoat silver to the springs and sway bar linkage rods, so I hope to have room to work without having things in the way.
I'm not a welder or fabricator, but I do have a nice Lincoln mig welder that I fully intend on using and learning to make good welds with. I'm not BRAND NEW to it I've just putzed with it in the past. I have confidence that I can do it if this is the part. Once I actually remove the front springs I'm sure I'll have a much better view of the situation. I didn't know it this part as stock on the Jeep is welded or pressed or what? I know it's easier said than done, but as clean and solid as everything but the mount is , it would only make sense to remove the part and replace it. Grinding may prove to be tough in the tight space so it there's anyone one with experience with this specific situation I'm open to suggestions.
With everything I hope to accomplish through this process, I should have a new Jeep when I'm done.
Thanks in advance
