Adding disc brakes to read with stock master cylinder?

Has anyone added disk brakes to rear and not have to up scale on the booster and master cylinder? Will the stock booster/master handle it?

I upgraded to disk brakes on my 89 Mustang without upgrading the booster or master cylinder and it works fine. You can always add adjustable proportioning value to balance the braking since the stock setup is for disk/drum brakes.

My TJ came with a Dana 35 in the rear and I upgraded to Dana 44 with rear disk. There was a part from the master cylinder that I had to remove because the caliper takes more fluid than the wheel cylinders. Maybe someone here can chime in.

I found this in http://www.stu-offroad.com. That is the part I had to remove on mine

we pulled the combination/proportioning valve and removed the small black o-ring from the stem and then buttoned it back up. Be careful when removing the threaded cap, since there is a spring inside which keeps it under tension. If you have a friend near by, solicit some help as it is much easier to reassemble this with two people working on it.​

Rear almost complete other than brakes and shocks. Then gonna start the Dana 44 swap in the front.

Good call. Anyway the rear brake is not a big help in stopping power.

I think when I did this I grabbed the proprtioning insert from a ZJ and put it in place of the drum one I had it stemmed to work for several years

i have everything here for the 11” drums so i think I’ll run them for now. Appreciate all the feedback tho.

Also picked up some 4” lift coils for the rear to sit the ride height lower than my 6” coils. Today I’ll start the 44hp swap and stretch the front
