This is probably a dumb question but are all of the heads marked TUPY the same? I don't know what years they were made but I plan on buying one for my 2001 TJ and want to be sure that it will fit exactly. Thanks

It gets a bit confusing. From what I understand, all heads made from 2000-2006 are 0331 heads, but only those from 02-06 are TUPY 0331 heads with the improved, less-crack-prone design. Any TUPY head you find should bolt up just fine to your 2001.
Did your head crack or are you just planning for the future? I have a 2000 that I'm paranoid about, but no problems so far at 94,000 miles.

Just planning. Might have exhaust manifold leak and if I change that I might change the head at same time. 2001 with 201K miles. No cracks yet.
Great to hear you haven't had any problems. The way I see it, if a non-TUPY 0331 head comes off the block for any reason, it should not go back on. You can get a rebuilt Clearwater head for like $450, so I think it's worth the swap.

Bromel, I agree with you about changing the head when taking the original off for any reason. The only reason I have is the head gasket is leaking a little oil out of the passenger side. I've got it pretty much stopped. Another thing is the price the garage will charge to replace the intake/exhaust gasket. For a couple of hundred more I can get that done and the head gasket/head replaced. Plus $200 for the cost of the good head.
