Hello, I have a 2006 TJ Rubicon with a manual trans with the stock 4:1 transfer case. I had the oil changed by a shop a few months ago and now I have noticed that I cannot change gears easily until it worms up (5 to 7 mins driving). Is there some sort of addictive that should have been added or do I have a clutch issue. I'm going to change the oil again by myself this time to make sure it is the correct type. Any ideas on hard shifting before it heats up.
ATF or ATF+4 for transfer case fluid?

Do you know what fluid they used by chance? I know some local shops use 10w30 motor oil in trans and thats fine for the older ax15/5 trans but not for your 6 speed.
Is it cold where you are at? Ive noticed 2nd is a hard shift when cold but smooths out after the first shift.
Many recommend redline MTL for you 6 speed as it works better when cold.
I'm in Northern California so it's not cold. I notice that once the temp get up to 210 that it shifts normally. I'm not sure what they used but remember asking them to use Mopar but my guess is they did not. I will look into the Redline MTL. Thanks

I changed the oil in the transmission and all is good on the world. It solved the hard shifting issue. I’m not sure what they used as the oil but I will not go there again.
In my experience a 231 will run a long time lubricated with gravel so any atf is going to be fine
