Hi all,
The clutch throwout failed on my Jeep so I did what anygood sane Jeep mechanic would do and pulled the entire transmission to rebuild while I'm in there. First and second gears have always been rough shifting and I hope to fix that with new synchros. While inspecting the transmission, I notice my 3rd gear dog ring is ground strangely - see picture attached. I can't imagine how this could have happened through wear, is this another dog tooth style I'm unaware of? Do I need to replace my 3rd gear? I can't find dog rings sold individually for this transmission, in other gearboxes I have rebuilt, you can R&R the dog ring with a press.
I'm surprised to see the worst synchro wear in 3rd as this gear has never given me problems like 2nd. Regardless, all synchro rings will be replaced.
