I am finally getting around to dealing with the body mount issues on my 2004 rubicon. Out of the 11 total body mounts, 4 are missing their bolts completely. I tried swapping in identical body mount bolts from elsewhere on the jeep, but it's pretty clear that there are snapped sections of the original bolts remaining up in the threaded portion in the body (from previous owner). There are lots of videos on YouTube on how to repair TJ body mounts, but they almost all involve cutting out large sections of the body and replacing them. There is very minimal rust on the frame or body of my jeep, so I don't think that is at all necessary in my case.
Only one of the four missing bolts is the larger 1/2-13 pitched bolt size. It's my understanding that these mounts running under the door on each side of the jeep screw into a fixed threaded nut in the body. Could I therefore drill out the original snapped bolt and put in a threadsert or helicoil?
Additionally, after reading a post by mrblaine on general info about the body mounts of a TJ, I see that the three remaining missing bolts (7/16-14) thread into a "floating" nut plate that is held in place by a cage of sorts. After reading that and seeing a picture of one, I think it would be nearly impossible to drill one of them out to install a threadsert. Is my only option to cut open the tub from above and replace the nut? Two of the mounts I am talking about are the ones up in front of the gas tank next to the rear upper shock mounts. The other mount is the very rear one on the passenger side, just in front of the bumper.
Lastly, I was looking for confirmation on part numbers for body mount replacements. I read on here that the correct part numbers for the body mounts are 924-354 and 924-356, even though 924-270 and 924-271 are what every parts website says are correct. Is this right?
