Going through the entire brake system on my 99 Wrangler and the last piece of the puzzle is the bracket for the proportioning valve. Are you guys putting it back on and mushrooming the aluminum to the bracket or leaving the bracket off. Talked to a buddy and he left the bracket off. I don’t off-road other than the beach. Before and after pictures. PS. That hard brake line from the front passenger side to the proportioning valve is a killer. I bought the pre-bent lines and everything was a breeze except for that one.

I am in a similar situation and would also like to know if it is OK to keep the bracket off. I was surprised at how easy it was to get all of the new lines routed and in place, but no matter what I try I cannot keep two of the connections on the proportioning valve from leaking. I have tightened, loosened, tightened many times and can't get a good connection. The flare nuts on the end of the line look fine, so I am thinking I may have ruined the threads in the valve. I have a new one on the way, but it doesn't come with a bracket and I have not been able to get the original bracket off of the old one.

Any advice?

I always peen it over and install the bracket because such things matter to me.

Bracket will come off with a Dremel, at least that’s what I used to remove the peen aluminum connected to the bracket. I did a complete brake rebuild from top to bottom. My proportioning valve was seriously pitted and corroded so I replaced. Everything fit up well but I had decided to leave the bracket off. I don’t off-road and after all the new brake lines fitted up there was no way in hell that I could of positioned the valve bracket up to the master cylinder studs. With the new lines on the valve it won’t budge an inch. The aluminum is soft so it is easy to possibly cross thread. On a side note the electrical sensor that came on the new valve would not mate to my plug on my 99 TJ so I swapped the old one back on the new valve.

Now if I hadn’t changed the brake lines, just the valve I expect everything would have lined up perfectly.

Good luck!
