Building a TJ from the catalogs

So from what I understand you can pretty much build a TJ from the ground up using all the parts catalogs out there.

Just curious as to what it would cost to do that from a parts perspective.

I'm sure its an insane $$$ amount, but anyone know ballpark what it is?

No way. Which catalog is that?

Maybe parts of it, but by no means the entire thing.

It’s also worth mentioning that a good majority of the Chinese (Crown) replacement parts you’ll get for the interior / exterior are often times poor quality and fitment. A good example of this is the Crown OE style replacement fender flares.

I heard Ian Johnson say it on an episode of Extreme 4x4 or one of his similar shows. I don't think he meant a specific catalog, but that in general everything could be purchased in aftermarket form.

The fact that a bulk of it is junk doesn't surprise me.

I would be surprised if it didn't cost somewhere around $50,000 to buy everything new.

Many years ago you could buy every part of a Model T from the JC Whitney catalog, I don't remember what it would have cost but it wasn't as cheap as just buying one.

I bet you could get close, but yeah it would be silly expensive. So many choices and orders would have to be placed and I'm far too lazy to start a spreadsheet called "Build a TJ" with a running total, haha! If I was building from the frame up, I would likely make different drivetrain and shock mounting choices right off the bat, and that would immediately throw everything off anyhow. LOL.
