Buying new tires

Well I bought the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss M/T. Just wanted to report back.
I did research them for 2 days. I may would have bought the AT but it doesn’t come in the 35x12.5-15. So im looking forward to testing them out and letting yall know how they perform in my opinion.

Are we going down this "small size" rabbit hole again?

BFG and every other tire manufacturer publish the actual diameter of their tires. Anyone who believes that nominal tire sizes mean actual dimensions must be new.

For example:


Falken Wildpeak MT- listed size 35x12.50R15 has an actual diameter of 34.5".

Cooper STT Pro - listed size 35x12.50R15 has an actual diameter of 34.6".

BFG KM3 - listed size 35x12.50R15 has an actual diameter of 34.5".



If the exact diameter of a tire matters to you, look it up before you buy.

Really happy so far with the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W I recently put on. Road noise decreased and feel just as confidence inspiring as the duratracks I had on previously.

I recently went with these as well in 315/75R16. I would have gone with Goodyear Duratracs again or even MT/Rs but Goodyear discontinued both lines in 315/75R16.

The Falken Wildpeak A/T4Ws are definitely smoother on road than the Duratracs and do equally well in shallow (less than 4") snow and ice on road. Off road, the Duratracs curb stomped the A/T4Ws in mud and deep snow.

The Duratracs had way more aggressive tread and also a softer sidewall, even though they were E load rated. The Duratracs, even though they had a fairly large tread pattern, held equally well in shallow snow and ice as the Falken Wildpeak A/T4Ws due to the aggressive siping.

I do think the A/T4Ws are a bit more energy efficient than the Duratracs were.

The A/T4Ws also seem to do a bit better in rainy conditions on road. I can go a bit faster through roundabouts without accidentally drifting them.

If they were the same price or even close, I'd go with the Kenda tires 100%. If a Canadian relative of mine dies and leaves me some cash, I'm all in. Unless tariffs apply to inheritance's too.

From what I have seen, kenda's are way higher priced, but mine are still riding great!!!

Those new Kenda tires look great! The old style Kenda MTs I put on my wife's KJ still looked like new after 25,000+ miles. Unfortunately the tires lasted longer than the transmission. She loved that old Jeep. I didn't like the color. I bought it for her for a Valentine's Day present when we were dating. I got socks.

Something to note: Pittsburgh snow is an entirely different animal that up here in the Uintas. And not just the amounts dumped. (Somewhat unrelated, Broke my collarbone at Crafton Park tubing in the storm of 95 (or was it 93?) Mud... almost forget what that is now. But our powder here packs more than it shmooshes back in pgh.
