Can I paint the hard top?

I'm looking at a Khaki LJ with a khaki hard-top and flares. It's too much, I like visual separation a black top and flares give. Has anyone had luck painting the hard-top?

Hang on just a second. If you buy what sounds like a Rubihara, please sell me those khaki color flares instead of painting over them!
