Cheapo Fender Flares

Hello All,

Thanks for letting me join this group. I'm a long time Jeep owner, but only this week purchased my first TJ Yeah for me. 2006 Unlimited Rubicon - orange.

I'm in the process of buying wider tires and I know I'll have to get wider fender flares. Anyone buy these $60 flares from Ebay? How can they be so cheap? I'm thinking it's a "you get what you pay for" thing, but I was hoping someone had some experience. At that price, if they get busted on trees or UV damage, I can afford to replace them every 2 - 3 years!

Without a link we have no way of knowing what flares you are talking about. Personally to me, they are a PITA to take on and off and I would want good ones and be done.

Too wide of tires in my experience suck on trails. I personally run 35x12.5 tires and cut my stock flares thinner. I think it looks better than bulky flares and I'm willing to deal with water and mud splashing up.

I can't offer any info on the fender flares, but I couldn't not take the moment to share this picture sent to me from a friend. He was in need of only one new vent visor for his 4-runner, so he opted for the (questionably) low priced set of four off of Amazon. Four new vent visors for that price!? Heck, why not, he says.

Went ahead and stripped off all four and installed the new visors. The next morning he goes into work. Later, he punches the time clock around 3pm and goes out to the truck and he sees not one, but all four visors had been beaten into submission by the sun's heat.

Very doubtful the fenders are made up of plastic that would do this. But, you get the idea. I never would have imagined a set of vent visors would fail so miserably in this way. We both learned

I'm planning to run 35X12.5 also. However, my off roading is exclusively mud. I absolutely am not going to deal with water and mud splashing up. I need the wide tires in order to not cut ruts. Not leaving a trail in my situation is the most important thing.

I love how they put the American flag all over the place. Just in case you want to believe that there's still some things made in America.

I'm sure I'll have to buy my own set of SS hardware.

And that pic of the vent visors is killer. If that's not the poster child for Made in China.......

Cut the bottom of a plastic 55 gallon drum off. You can get 2 flares off each drum. Comes in clear/white and blue and are UV resistant.

I fell for the cheap on ebay. Don't waste your money. They don't cover where your stock flares mount on the jeep. Holes don't line up. They deform when you tighten them down. Can I say JUNK any louder? I wasted my money so no one else needs to.

I'd stay away from those. That is way too cheap to be any good at all. Also, I never trust products from companys with obvious spelling/grammar errors in their ads. It just screams cheap crap if they can't be bothered to proofread, or pay someone fluent in the language to proofread.

I was buying a few parts off a guy parting out a TJ and he offered me some flares like that for free. After seeing them up close, I passed. Something was funky about the mounting hole locations and they seemed really fragile. With an LJ that nice, I would definately not want cheap crappy parts.
