My Xterra and I have have been invited to join four other Xterras and their owners in in a 3-week Christmas/New Year's overlanding adventure.

Aside from the usual "you'll be kidnapped, raped, robbed and killed by the Cartels," any words of wisdom or advice on current conditions.

Here are the routes, and a gratuitous photo of my Xterra:

We have an assembly plant in Mexico across the border from Otay Mesa, I can ask the manager, he offroads a lot down there.

XTerra? Why not the Jeep? Not enough room in it I assume?

The cubic footage of cargo space is similar in an LJ and an Xterra. The wheelbase is almost the same.

The primary reasons I am taking the Xterra rather than my LJ are:

1. Its an Xterra trip.
2. My Xterra is set up for overlanding with improvements to the cooling system, appropriate skid plates, rocker guards, mild lift, upgraded tires, rear e-locker, communications gear, etc.
3. My jeep will draw attention in a group of Xterras; I don't want to worry about it being stolen in Mexico.
4. This will probably be my last long trip in the Xterra before I replace it with a (F150, the upcoming new Ford Bronco or ????)
5. Its an Xterra trip.

;)

I spoke with the head of our assembly plant in Mexico, he also off-roads down there frequently. He said there's nothing to worry about down there that you wouldn't worry about here. Have a great time and report back to us.
