Clutch problem

My clutch works perfectly normal until i am on an uphill incline and push the clutch in. At that time there is no pressure about 3/4 of the way down. It gets stiff at the bottom 1/4 which is just enough to release the clutch. I started noticing this when i would go up an incline so i could back up to turn around. So i go up incline and go to push the clutch in and it almost goes to the floor before there is any pressure and it will swing back and forth like its just hanging there. I go in reverse get back to where the jeep level and the clutch is back to normal. Fluid is fine and it has a new slave cylinder.

Did you replace it with the factory master/slave system or something aftermarket? The factory (or Dorman) replacement master/slave system comes as a pre-bled system.

Besides the detail about being on an incline, this sounds exactly like what just happened to me a few weeks back. My master/slave assembly was leaking fluid and I eventually lost operation of the clutch. I had to replace the assembly and have been good since.

Yes i replaced it with dorman pre bled.

Besides the detail about being on an incline, this sounds exactly like what just happened to me a few weeks back. My master/slave assembly was leaking fluid and I eventually lost operation of the clutch. I had to replace the assembly and have been good since.

I have been off-roading for over 6 months with it this way and it only happens when i am on a steep incline. I doesn't effect me to much as i rarely use the clutch on an incline and only happens when the front is 4ft higher than the back. I was wondering if some how the fluid in the master is tilting back into the cup so much the plunger has no fluid to push.

Yes i replaced it with dorman pre bled.

When you reinstalled the slave, you left the rubber cup on? And broke the straps by pressing the clutch pedal? To me, I agree with TOB on a possible leak or maybe an air bubble somehow makes it’s way up to the plunger. If fluid looks adequate when it’s level, start checking for leaks

Interesting. When I had that leak, I lost clutch operation over the space of only about 2 days. May be an air bubble as wolfman suggested.
