Dana 35 Carrier in Dana 30 Housing?

I'm planning to put a locker (arb or elocker) into my front Dana 30. A friend told me that the strongest best way to go is to use a rear Dana 35 locker with Dana 30 reverse gears?

Any thoughts? Is there plenty of room/any problems putting ARB or eLocker Dana 35 carrier into a Dana 30?

A locker made for a c-clip Dana 35 axle as the TJ uses will not fit in a Dana 30 axle.

The buddy I heard about this from had the ARB Dana 35 installed in his front 'JK' axle. So I assume by your answer that the JK does not have the 'C-Clip' Dana 30 in the front, and the TJ does?

The front axle is not a c-clip, the rear Dana 35 used after around 1990-91 is a c-clip. Earlier Dana 35 axles were not c-clip designs.

I'm curious what your preference is for a selectable Dana 30 locker. Options that I am considering are OX, ARB, E-Locker or possibly Yukon Zip locker. Any preferences and why?

Watch this and it will help you get an idea of what you want and what trade-offs you are willing to compromise.


***Example only, not an in-depth review/recommendation***
ARB is most likely going to be your #1 recommended locker based on the instant "lock" it provides (and the name). However, as explained tin the video, you still need access to air (extra $$) and it is one more thing to go wrong.
OX cable shift seems fool proof, yet, you need to keep the cable adjusted correctly. Many do not like the mounting location for the locking mechanism.
Eaton E-lockers are not instant lock and require a little wheel spin to "lock" into place, if you go in reverse, it unlocks and locks again as the rollers catch. However, if wired and protected correctly, it is typically worry free.

Get what I'm saying about trade-offs? Anyone can say "buy this" but you need to know what you are willing to live with.
