A little back ground first. We just bought a 1999 TJ with 112,000 miles. We have put on 8,000 miles since then and it has ran perfectly. We are currently in Moab Utah now. We were out on the trail and went through about 2 feet of water and then climbed a small hill. The Jeep just died. We could not get it started again. Pulled it into Moab to a Jeep place.

Replaced the distibutor, nothing. Crank sensor, nothing. We thought maybe the water fried the computer. Nothing. Running out of options. Anyone have any ideas?

Do you hear the fuel pump cycle on then off a second or two later when you first turn the ignition switch to the 'On' position, before turning it to the Start position?

Test for fuel being under pressure at the fuel rail on top of the engine. You can do that but unscrewing the plastic cap off the Schrader valve on the fuel rail, it's like an oversize tire valve stem. Once the cap is off, depress the little pin in the center like you'd do to let air out of a tire valve stem. The fuel should squirt out, it should be under a little pressure.
