So, got around the replacing the thermostat and radiator. Radiator was fairly easy, but the thermostat challenged me.

I had a hard time getting it to stay in place as I placed the housing back on. Finally got it. Also, when we did it last night I didn’t clean the surfaces well enough and had leaks at the gasket. Took a break and went back at it this morning. Got the two surfaces nice and clean, got the stat to not move and the bolts in. Tightened them down and added more coolant. No leaks anywhere. Drove it 15 miles and still no leaks. The coolant level is good all around.

Now, the crap I drained out is pretty concentrated as seen in the picture. I replace
. Would it be a good idea to run what I have now, then drain in a month then refill?

second, I replaced the upstream O2 but now the downstream keeps throwing codes. Same one P0138. I plan to replace It, but can it wait until the weather is a bit warmer and I can work on it outside?
This forum had been invaluable when looking for information on the radiator and the thermostat.
Also, the power steering fluid container. It’s Gerry rigged from the PO. I’m not sure where it needs to be. I’ll attach a picture along with some others.
The picture are old/new radiator, old thermostat, old coolant, power steering fluid container and the new temp that it holds constant.

I think that’s all for now n

Old fluid could get contaminated by whatever falls off the truck when draining, use new. I always use distilled water to cut the new juice, especially on aluminum radiators.
The PS reservoirs are usually remote, sometime on the fan shroud, some nearer the pump, you’ll have to google pics.
Trick on you next t-stat is to use a little rtv to glue it in place, sometimes they can shift and when you tighten down certain kinds of housings they can crack the housing.
Seems like you nailed it!!

Where in Alaska?, it’s kind of a big place.

I put in all new 50/50. Just wondering if it would be worthwhile to flush it again to clear all the junk out.
I think it’s in there ok. No leaks and I’ve drove it a bit today. Heat still not where I want it but I’ll flush the core when it’s warmer out and can work outside.

In Anchorage.

Best to flush before new radiator so as not to flush junk into the tubes, that’s what clogs them. Keep what you have for now and flush later. What you can do now is put an inline filter on the top hose to catch junk before going into radiator and keep an eye on it.

I enjoyed my only visit to The Last Frontier almost twenty years ago, Great State. Did some mountain biking in and around the Palmer/Wasilla area while I was there doing some work.
