Just brought home my TJ an 05, the interior lights work with the switch on the column but don't work when the doors open. The passenger door occasionally works but just for a couple of seconds. Is it likely both switches went bad? is there a timer any where that might need to be addressed?

It is likely thr both went bad. Your TJ is 12 years old. Should be easy to diagnose though. In my 98 they just pull out of the hole, not exactly sure if it is the same on a 05 but, how ever it comes out, unplug it, and short them together and see if the lights work. If they do, the switch is bad.

Check fuse number 4 in the glove box too. Probably not that, if it works sometimes, but that is the fuse to pull if you want to drive without your doors on, so the courtesy lights are not on the whole time.

I am glad you got it fixed. I would have suggested that first but you idicated it worked sometimes. Without that fuse it should have never worked.

Anyhoo glad it worked one way or the other.

I know...but last night my wife opened the passenger door and 2 seconds of light???? maybe this jeep is part English and has some of the Lucas electrical in it lol....

Haha mice!

Don't laugh you should have seen the mouse nest when I opened up the air box yesterday! Surprised it was not running hot when I picked it up Friday and drove it back to NY from 3 states away!

But having fun working on it...I love the impact Orange color .....I will like it better with nicer flares and winch bumper soon!

Wow it has to be breathing easier now that nest has gone...was yours a barn find or did the PO just not service it ?

from my understanding, it was not used much in the past 2 years. I can tell you I have had mice fill the entire air cleaner of my 81 Vette in a single winter in my attached garage.

Love Impact Orange TJ’s. I was going to suggest fuse 4. Glad it worked out. I never use mine. Just use the switch on the left turn signal to flip on and off as needed. Certainly makes life easy with the doors off, which is the ultimate in TJ fun! Enjoy your Jeep. What more do you have planned for it? Anything beyond bumpers, winch and flares?

Snob !!! come on here with your flashy stuff. hahaha JK ;)
Wish mine had that.

I am sure there will be more than winch and bumpers...half doors are good enough around here (too many morons and traffic where I am for no doors...at least most of the time). ..... the mice don/t infiltrate all my vehicles every winter....but I do scatter moth balls in the garage now to discourage it.

You don’t have this switch with the little dome light on it?
