Son bought a 2000 TJ that had a couple issues. We have most of them fixed and I thought I had a simple solution for the last one. It does not seem to be working. Previous owner had a problem with the door and latch. We bought a new latch and I made plate out of 1/8 between the original skin and the new latch. I had planned to spot weld several places after I had it working correctly.
Only one of the 3 mounting holes is still accurate so I don't want to cut completely away because then I have nothing accurate. My plate seems to have the latch assembly too far back in the door to latch as it should. My picture is not the best .Would I have any chance of finding someone that had a junk or wrecked door that would cut a section out of the panel in the picture? If I had the factory mounting area I could trace around the cut out panel and section it in I think.
Any other ideas or advice on where to get a piece would be greatly appreciated. He has been pretty patient so far and I would really like to get it out of the shop!
