Like many people here, I was having starting issues. I checked everything with the help of all the info from here. I did replace my starter as the old one was dragging. Here are the final steps that I did that somehow solved my problem and now I want someone to explain to me?
new starter turned key on and all the lights and gauges worked but not even a click at the starter. So I decide to take apart my relay to manually engage it. with the key on I push the relay and the jeep turns over and starts and stays running. I go turn off the engine with the key and attempt a normal key start. Same as above. I go back and hit the relay and it starts and runs. I turn the key off again and leave it off and get my meter and check some stuff out and then hit the relay and the engine turns over but doesn't start. I do that three times and then realize I forgot to turn the key back on. I go to the key and turn it on and it starts like normal. I turn it off and on several more times and it starts like it should. I have driven it today to work here in hot Alabama and turn it off and on after being heat soaked and it still starts normally..... All I did was with the key in the ignition but in the off position I manually engaged the relay which turned the engine over, I held it for like four seconds at a time and I did it three times. Can anyone explain the results?
