Factory Fog Light Gauge

What is the gauge of the factory fog lights? I've Google searched like crazy! All kinds of images with schematic diagrams but nothing referencing the gauge. It's either a 16 or 18. My wire stripper appears to work more smoothly on the 18 gauge setting than the 16. I thought I read somewhere that it was 16 so just asking.

As an FYI, need to splice some extra wire to extend the run to the harness plug after installing my Barricade bumper. I drilled holes on the back side of the bar to run the wire through it after wrapping with plastic wire conduit for extra protection. Thanks.

The factory used 18ga wire.

There is a section in TJ Resources on this Forum where you can download a PDF of the Factory Service Manual and Parts Catalog which will assist you in troubleshooting and answering some of your questions. In section 8W of the FSM you will find what fuses feed what, electrical wiring runs, wiring gauge and colors, harness connector numbers, and terminal pin outs.

Those aren't factory lights. You need to know what the wattage is before deciding on what size wire and/or whether the factory fog light wiring can be used.

Thanks. I bought some waterproof solder filled butt connectors so I'll see how those works. The YouTube video looks pretty promising.

I originally thought they weren't either because of the fog light guards, but when I removed them from the stock bumper and peeled back the wire conduit there was a Mopar tag with the part no. 55055095.

I try to run a minimum of 14 ga for any job that I need to splice into. This is for things like tail lights or radio. Anything that pulls more juice I use 12 ga.
While I know this is overkill for 99% of the jobs, over time all wire will degrade and an extra layer of safety now is better than chasing electrical issues later.
