Finally getting some experience wrenching

so my friend had purchased a 1988 GMC Sierra for $200 and wants to restore it so i figured this would be good for some time wrenching considering my Jeep doesn’t really need any attention atm. So we spent about 5 hours after work pulling the bed off and that was a pain the truck has a solid frame but a ton of surface rust which is just building my skill set for when i’m going to clean up my frame even further. but i couldn’t help but feel proud. next we were grinding down the rust and using a needle gun to use some por-15 and give it a nice coat of paint. i really enjoying wrenching it’s almost like a puzzle and it brings a lot of happiness seeing what you’ve accomplished!

My #1 son has discovered the bliss associated with spending the day in my shop with tools and his motorcycle, very peaceful and relaxing.

Mechanizing is fun up until you do it for a living, then your own shit lays dormant because you are sick of working on others shit…

Truth! I started out in highschool working on cars, did it for almost ten years. I got so worn out on it, the last thing I wanted to do on the weekends was turn a wrench for my own projects. Now (25 years later) I have a different gig that doesn't involve that, so I'm finally enjoying it again.

My #1 son has discovered the bliss associated with spending the day in my shop with tools and his motorcycle, very peaceful and relaxing.

There is something about that. I get up early on the weekends, make my tea, & head into the garage to tinker with whatever I have going on. A few weeks back my 6 year old daughter woke up from the noise I was making & asked if she could help. I gave her a couple of jobs, a doughnut & juice, and she was happy to tinker away with me.

well maybe you should come over and help me wit my project some weekend, outboard shocks, tummy tuck, atlas install, axle swap on the front, rebuild with elocker in the rear…
