Frame rust / rot question

Hey everyone, I have a question about frame rot/rust. I recently found a small rot hole in the very back section of the frame. I bought it with a tow hitch on it and the tow hitch was very rusty, when I took it off and started needle scaling to por15 the exterior of the frame, the hole came about. I just saw the other side is looking pretty rough as well. I have looked and inspected the rest of the frame, it all looks good, that dang tow hitch... but I guess my question is, is that part of the frame (rear section where tow hitch was attached) a dangerous spot to be riding around with? Where the control arms are and where the skid plate is looks really good. Just that rear section. Also, How much do you guys think it would cost to get both rear sides fixed and if anyone around Illinois knows of any good places let me know! Thanks!

Are you asking if the tow hitch is part of the frame? If so, no, a tow hitch isn't even factory.

As for frame repair in Illinois, talk to @jodomcfrodo. He had his frame swapped on his TJ in Illinois if I recall, so perhaps that same shop does frame repairs. Because otherwise, I don't know anyone else in Illinois off the top of my head.

No I am saying that the hole and rust issues are where the hitch was bolted in. The tow hitch bolts were rusted on to the frame, I had to use a Dremel to get it off. I will take some pitcures here shortly. Thanks for the quick response!

My shop doesn’t do repairs but it wouldn’t be hard to find one that does in Illinois. I’d be very surprised if the rear portion of the frame is rotted but the rear control arm area is not.

Yeah I just went back out and looked at it.. It is def showing signs of corrosion by control arms too... I can't believe the guy that sold it to me told me the frame was rock solid.. I knew very little about jeeps when I bought it and when I checked the frame, I used a screwdriver.. wish I would have brought a hammer.. I feel like an idiot.. I paid way too much for a low mileage rust bucket.. plus I am a college student so I don't have the money to fix the frame right now anyway.. If I were to sell it, how much would an 06 with 94000 miles some frame rot/rust sell for? or would fixing it be worth it? Is it possible to bring legal action to the private seller?
