Half door options, pros and cons

@gg1 I run door less most of the summer. I an located about 100 miles north of Pittsburgh, and have driven to south hills of Pgh many times with no doors. Never had an issue. Even drove past a local here last weekend with windshield down, not an issue. I do have half doors and full doors. Half doors are great and being able to keep uppers with you in case of rain is a plus.

Well I probably know the area you live very well. My dad is from Tidioute. That is about 100 miles north.

I think I am running no doors for a bit to see how it is. Who knows, maybe I won't like it. I kind of doubt I won't like it though.

Valid point. I could just run doorless for my ride to work and see how I feel about it. Maybe a used cloth set with uppers that I could thrown in the back would be the way to go, then if it rains, I am ready for it. My trip is about 70 miles away, so I would like to be somewhat prepared. I don't have a lot of space either.
JCR Offroad makes a decent half door that is accepting of best top soft upper doors. I think they are like 500 bucks tho. Still cheaper to go doorless, but it’s a cheaper alternative than OEM half doors. Drive without and see what you think.

so my wife and daughter would drive with me while the doors were off. so its tubular doors with mirrors. i believe part of the issue is when the doors come off so do the mirrors

As it happens that I was just doing a search for some used half doors through the junkyard database and wishing I lived in your area so I could just go pick some up instead of paying to ship them. For whatever reason that part of PA is full of junkyards and you can get doors in most colors for A LOT less than $800.

Start calling around.

There are a lot of them around here, you are right, but nothing in silver. Not sure about my damn interior color that I am finding out is not all that common. Slate! I drive by one of the junk yards every weekend, which is kind of funny. I have a feeling they aren't in very good shape though.

Had a bee bounce off my knee years ago while doorless. Glad it didn't go up my shorts!
I've been running half doors in the summers ever since.
It took a long time to find factory half doors, but I finally scored a set with uppers for $200. Same black color too.
Before them, I ran Bestop Element half doors with metal skins and uppers I found on Craigslist.
Before that, I ran Bestop soft half doors I also found on Craigslist.
The factory doors are far superior to any of the other doors I have used.
Although, the Bestop doors are way better than a bee up your shorts.

These are local, but wrong interior color, so I would need to find slate interior, which is proving to be difficult, since I have been trying to find the interior panel. The last picture has me worried about condition. Looks like some surface rust. Also the price is pretty high unless it was the correct interior for me, I think. I may just keep looking. At this point thinking painting them would be easier than finding a set with slate interior.

What does a slate interior look like? I find it hard to believe that it would clash with black. They look good to me. Offer $400 and work your way up.

I would think it would be easier to paint the interior plastic, then change the color of the door. Just my 2 cents.

If the exterior color matches then grab them....my jeep has the black dash and gray door panels and it did not look out of place when I bought it...I still like it,

What do you think of that spot on that last picture of the link? If that rust is bad enough, I might have to have it fixed and repaint them anyway. Thanks for your advice. It does come with uppers, but it won't match my top. Guess I could see how bad that looks and get upper fabric from bestop. Ugh, more money. lol

I didn't know you could paint the plastic to be honest. I just figured that wouldn't last? Never looked into it.

That’s the color of my interior. The rust might not be that bad. If he was near me I’d prolly buy them. They look pretty good and good luck finding bright silver metallic again lol. I always thought black would look cool on the silver jeeps too. So when I was looking I looked for black also.

Well I tried to contact and no reply. Probably sold. lol
Every time I see your TJ picture, I have to make sure it isn't mine. Obviously you have great taste.

This and Starrs post made me buy the 1/2 doors. I got a great deal and on top of that the interior is actually SLATE!!!! I couldn't believe it, but exact match. The jeep they came off of had like 31K miles on it. I just got super lucky. Sorry about my lousy picture, but I was having a celebration beer and the sun was behind the Jeep, but you get the idea. Got a lot done today on it as well as a brand new top installed.

Now I need lock cylinders with or without keys. Don't think I will lock 1/2 doors, but I need to fill that hole. Right now it is duct tape. lol
