I am new to this TJ thing and I have scoured the multiple posts on hard top wiring but I am not sure that my specific question has been answered. If it has, please forgive me.

I have a 2000 TJ that was not factory wired for a hardtop. I got a smoking deal on a factory hardtop of the same vintage. I understand that the Mopar wiring harness kit, 82205621AB is no longer available and was wondering if someone has taken a 2003-2006 wiring harness and successfully converted it to the 1997-2002 style hardtops. I know that the connector at the hard top is different but an adapter is available. It appears that the harnesses are different, based on photos available. I have found the wiring instructions on line for a 2003-2006 kit but have not found the 2000 version for the old kit to see how they compare. There are portions provided on this forum but not all 6 pages.

It appears from diagrams there are a few more wires on the older ones than there are on the new harnesses. can anyone help. I live in an area where the defrost would definitely come in handy.

Thanks!!!

You’ll have to copy and paste, for whatever reason when I post a link it directs to a diff website.

Thanks for the diagram and install instructions. This helped a lot. It appears that the difference in the two is that there are four wires that plug into the red 10 way that are Brown/Pink, Yellow, Pink/White and Black/White that are missing on the 2003-2006 harness that I need to track down the wiring diagram for. Will just order a Service manual that has the schematics and see what they are for. Thanks again, Fell free to post if you know where they come from and where they are tied into the 1997-2002 harness.

You bet. That’s all the info I have. Jerry shared that when I asked about removing the harness. Turns out that too is complex, so I’m just leaving it. Maybe a hard top will come back in the future, but not likely!
