Hi there! I'm fairly new to the Jeep community (bought my TJ last August) and am hoping I can get a question answered here. Back in October I sent my Jeep in to have the seal between the trans and transfer case replaced as it had been leaking. The shop I sent it to told me they had to take off the t-case to fix the issue and everything seemed fine.

Fast forward to last week, I put it in 4h as snow was accumulating on the road and immediately noticed that my 4wd light did not light up. I pull into a nearby parking lot and fiddle with it to see if it was going into 4h or 4l and determined that it could do both. I got back on the road but within 10 minutes I hear what sounds like 2 gears separating and the car feels like it's in neutral. I tried to put it back in 2wd but heard a grinding sound and did not attempt again. I pulled over, shifted the car into neutral and then was able to get back into 2wd to get moving and from there I was able to put it back into 4h and continued on my way. It happened a few more times over the course of the day, and seemed like it would mainly happen after I put the car in 4l and then back down into 4h.

I've been reading about people who have had similar issues and it seems like the t-case shift linkage is a possible culprit, but I wanted to get opinions about my specific situation. Does it seem like the shift linkage is the problem or is there something more serious going on?

Thanks!

Probably the shifter/linkage. Especially if you're still using the OEM linkage and have a suspension lift installed, going to be better off with a cable shifter. I'm on about 5" combined and was having problems with the OEM linkage. I got the Savvy shifter and never had a problem again.

It is the OEM linkage and I have a 4" suspension lift. I heard that upgrading to a cable shifter is a solid fix and have been eyeing one on extreme terrain that is made by B&M.

I've heard great things about their products but I've also read a bunch of people saying that their order fulfillment times/customer service is a nightmare

Just get the Novak if you don’t want to wait on savvy ,they invented it,I haven’t had any problems with mine.

Or order it off Amazon. That's what I did.
