Help diagnosing a problem

I drove the Jeep to a gas station and there was no problem cranking it. When I finished filling up the Jeep wouldn't start. Turned the key and nothing happened. Not even a click. Opened the hood checked the battery connections and they weren't loose. Literally tapped my finger on each connector. Got back in and it started no problem. Today I went to start it and same thing. Checked the connections again, nothing loose, and then tried to start it again. It started up just fine. I am wondering if this might be related to a different problem. Sometimes when I cut the Jeep off the radio turns back on. I have to cut the CD player off. This happens from time to time. What should I check? I am not a mechanic but have changed some stuff with success. I changed the multi-function switch months ago. I didn't change out the right side.

First thing I would think is corrosion on the battery terminals. I might not be visible, but just enough to cause the problem you describe. Remove your terminals, clean them thoroughly bright and shiny. If you don't have any other problems, that should cure your starting issue. I don't know about your radio.

X2 that'd be my first suspicion. Physically remove both battery connectors and use a wire battery brush to thoroughly clean the battery posts and inside of the connectors. Battery connections can get loose, corroded, dirty etc. and sometimes they can even look perfect but still be making a bad connection.

This type of battery brush sells for $4-5 or so at most battery stores. Make sure the connectors are TIGHT when you're done, tight enough that they can't be moved with even considerable hand pressure. If you can't get the nut tight enough to get the connector tight on the battery post there's an easy free fix for that. Let us/me know and I'll explain how if you can't get one or both of them tight enough.

Clean battery terminals and cables first... it's free. After cleaning the battery if it still behaves the same, it could be the ignition switch and or the actuator.

Also check the cables at the starter. Make sure they are tight and corrosion free.
