I ripped out my 4.0L on my 2006 manual and I am converting it to an electric motor. I’m looking at my wiring harness and 95% I don’t need to keep. I DO need to have reverse lights and I didn’t check. I have a. Question for you TJ owners.

Right now when I have my key turned to ON, my lights work but when I put my 6MT in reverse, the reverse lights don’t activate. Can someone who still has their engine in the car and has a manual transmissions confirm if the reverse lights only activate when the engine is running or if you are just in ON but haven’t started your engine? Also is there a reverse indicator light in the dash?

Thanks!!

The reverse lights will illuminate with the key in the run position and the trans in reverse. The engine does not need to be running. The manual trans has/had a back up light switch on the side that the under tub harness connected to. There is not an indicator on the dash for back up lights working or not.
