So I bought this LJ and after actully driving it from the front to the back yard, I notices that there is a check gauges light, so after checkeing the gauges I get no oil pressure...on the gauge. First thing I check, no oil on dip stick...so 4 quarts later its full. I start the engine, gauge only comes up to the L mark and I still get the check gauges light. I looked in the oil fill cap, there is oil getting to the head and there is no lifter tick from too low of oil pressure. Since this jeep has the OPDA and CNP system, I am not sure if I need to start with the sender, oil pump, dash, or wiring. Any ideas from the tribe?

Is this the first time you've driven this Jeep? It seems weird that it needed 4 quarts before showing full.

Regardless of that, you see oil "getting to the head", which I figure is helping the rockers and such, and you don't hear lifter tick which is also good news. Based on that I'd figure it is gauge related. I'd start with the oil pressure sender;) unit and see if it fixes it.

Back when I was 16 years old I had a pin hole in my oil filter and ran out of oil in my slant six about a mile from home. 16 yr old me decided driving beat walking so I drove it home. My dad wasn't too happy about that. I filled it back up and changed the filter and the warning light came on. I thought that engine was toast and so did he. For some lucky reason I bought a new sending unit and lo and behold, that engine lasted another 5 or 6 years that I knew of.

Yes, it was offloaded from a transporter, then parked since july. I was just looking over a few things like for frame rot, which I didnt see too much, just a little surface rust in a few places, frame was full of dirt though. I will probaly pull the sender, and use a grease gun hose and a pressure gauge to verify pressure from the sending unit port. This thing is filthy though, it needs to be cleaned out and sanitized... I also do not get a check engine light...
thanks for the response. Tim

Ok, I was in my rabbit hole and I got a win tonight, the jeep had 50 psi at idle...I used a 24" grease gun hose to put in the hole where I pulled the transmitter from and used a manual gauge. Now to order one.

Nice!! Do we get to see a picture of that Jeep?
Its still a wreck...but I did find a hood and fender. once I get the fender off, I can start looking at the frame...even if its bent, I feel that I got it cheap at $6K delivered...

Now my decision is: do I buy the Standard motor products switch which I can have installed in 30 minutes, a BWD which I can have in 20 minutes, or the mopar which is a week....
