Just out of curiosity, have you checked your motor mounts? If there is one that is broken or severely damaged the motor may be rocking and hitting the filter on something near by.....?.....

Well here's the interesting part - I just installed a set of MORE bombproof poly mounts last week. I was careful not to damage my oil filter when I had to tap the passenger side bolt out with a hammer. The only contact with it would have been from my ratcheting combination wrench (when I loosened the old bolt and reinstalled the new one).
That said, I went back in there a couple of days later to add washers and lock nuts - did it in my driveway at night, although it only took me 10 mins per side and the bolts slid right out, I did not check my filter afterwards, but I also didn't notice the dents.
As a bonus, I bought two new Mopar filters the other day. My hands were pretty oily, so I used my rubber strap oil filter wrench to hand tighten the new filter on my motor. Accidentally DENTED one of the new filters in that process - in the 30 years that I have been changing oil filters, that was the first time I did that!
Hard to tell though about what happened with the last two Wix filters. I'll just keep an eye on them going forward and see what happens.
