Excuse the wind noise, but just replaced starter and have been driving it just fine for a few days. Went to start it today and this has been happening, I charged the battery and checked all the connections so any help would be appreciated. I installed the starter myself so not sure if I put it in wrong but it was running fine before.

Jeep is a 2000 2.5L 4 cyl automatic

Sounds like the starter is not engaging the flywheel and the teeth are bouncing off of it. Have you checked the bolts to be sure they haven't backed off. If so pull the starter and check it to see if the gear is jammed.

Make sure the battery is charged and the all the battery and starter connections are tight and free from corrosion for starters.

Went to check the connections and when tightening the connections this one felt loose and then snapped. So I guess I found the issue thank you!

Read the 3rd sentence.

Yeah I read it, what is the point? Never hurts to double check the basics, especially with a video showing the problem likely to be not enough power to the starter. Now go read post #4 again.

My point is you are telling him to do what he said he just did, Granted it doesn't look like he did it well.

Why would you chastise him over being right? He recommended the OP to “make sure the connections were good”, even though he “thought” he already checked. The “simplest solution” advice to double check was indeed correct in this case. Bravo to @John Scoggins for keeping it simple, this often fixes the problem.

Once spent hours, and beers, (after replacing the plugs, wires, rotor, on a VW bug). Trying to get the thing to start. Wouldn't do it. Re ran wires, re-installed plugs, re-gapped plugs, adjusted valves, adjusted points, adjusted everything. Ran battery completely dead twice. Cussed everything in sight. Hated life. Gave up when it was finally just too dark and too late to work on it any longer.

Got up the next morning to try it again. Found the distributor rotor siting happily on top of the air cleaner. Put it in, and it fired right up.

Never underestimate the power of the freaking obvious being stated over and over.....

I'm just jerking with him for the slang. Chill out it's all good. Glad the Jeep is running again
