Light Bar Install

Hey all,

I'm working on installing a light bar on the Jeep. I have a mount that will go around the windshield. The screws seem to be impossible to get off, so I can't even get the mount on. Anyone have ideas?

Yep, and cross your fingers they don't strip. Had it happen to me, and it makes for a PITA.

The PO put a light at there on mine. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, don’t do it! I leave mine there cause I don’t want to risk stripping a bolt. The glare off the hood SUCKS, unless you plan to black the hood out.

put some better headlights in and maybe a small bar or cubes off the bumper. Thank me later.

You get glare off of the hood from an above windshield light bar? I've read complaints about A-pillar mounted lights but not above windshield lights.

My Torx screws stripped (heads). If you're careful, you can drill them out (I did). Heat will work too but might effect the paint. If you're determined to mount a light bar, that'll be your best option.

Personally, I'd mount quality lights elsewhere.

Oh yes!! It lights the hood up bright. I don’t use it.

Return the light bar and put the money towards something you'll actually use.

No, seriously. If you still have the stock rig in your user pic, there's so much more you can do beyond buying a light bar and looking like everyone else.

JK guys love to mount light bars everywhere. It's almost comical.

That said, it's obvious some people have never found themselves in pure darkness. There's places around here where no lights exist, and trees cover any light from the moon. I'm talking pure, pitch black darkness. It makes me appreciate the KCs I have on the windshield mounts. Combined with the KCs on the bumper and you can see pretty far.

To this day I'll never understand the reasoning (or lack thereof) mounting a light bar to the cowl/ hood.
"Hey! There's an empty spot, let's put a light bar there!"

You’re Jeep, do what ya want. Lot of Folks hate light bars. I’m personally not a fan but I’m also not spending my money on their Jeep.

Little heat and small impact with a QUALITY bit should knock them right out.

Soak in penetrant , if painted , carefully cut the paint seal with a utility knife around the bolt head so it can wick in. Give it a day or two.

By the windshield posts and/or in front of the grill works best for TJ light placement .

saw a JK saterday evening cruising down the busy highway with his 52" lit up, blinding everyone both directions for a 1/4 mi.

i pass another JK guy every morning with green halo's. undercarriage lamps, a 20 on the hood, 2 A pillars and 2 fogs on the bumper all green, all lit up, blinding people on city streets. and this cats like 70yrs old too.

i won't knock ya for wanting 1................just plz don't be these fools.

Apologies for all the anti-light bar replies. The folks on this forum are quite opinionated, but they’re a good group of people and mean well, even if the replies aren’t so eloquent.

(But screw light bars.)
