A dealer with a LJ took a walk around and undercarriage video for me and here's two screenshots looking underneath from the bank. Thoughts?

I'm particularly interested in those oil stains on the rear axle and differential.

Hard to tell where the oil is from in the pic. If you buy it then you would want to change the fluids anyway and you might as well add a lube locker gasket which would fix the leak if it’s the diff cover.

could be a pinion seal too.

Is there a trail up to the fill plug? Only the Dana 44 has an actual thread in plug. The Dana 35 has a rubber plug and can let fluid ooze (been wanting to use that word for a while) out and appear like a gasket issue.

The stock rear axle was a Dana 44 so unless it was changed it's still that.

Take a pic of the other side of the rear diff where the driveshaft connects. As Apparition said, it could be a pinion seal leak and the fluid is leaking and coming over the top of the diff and axle.

That can burst into a nuclear event wiping out most of humanity. But most likely a simple leaking seal.😉
