It's odd that LEDs need that bug honking heatsink for their tail housing, yet don't produce enough heat to keep from icing up. I guess the heat is generated in the electronic part of the light and not the "bulb" part.

I would disagree about the blue halos being legal. You are not supposed to run any color except white or amber on the front of your vehicle. You can be ticketed for being a distraction to other drivers; or worse, impersonating an emergency vehicle.
its not something generally thought of when purchasing led headlights, i agree its worth the thought when making the purchase.
ive had trucklite leds on my pickup and usually run into light output issues once during the winter each year. you get that really wet sticky snow that accumulates and covers the headlights enough while driving to seem like your driving with your lights off.
purchasing the jw speakers for the jeep i considered heated but realized its not going to be a winter driver and not worth the added expense for me.
all in all usually i dont mind the hassle of getting out and wiping off the headlights every now and then on the truck but it is a issue you will likely experience using leds in the winter without the heated option.
I have a set of the Quadratec heated LEDs I bought back in September and so far I'm liking them a lot. I think JW partnered with Quadratec on them. Haven't got to try out the heated feature yet but I'm looking forward to seeing how they do!

I have the Illinois code in front of me. It does state that the approved colors for headlights are white/amber. Does not specifically state that the addition of blue halos make them illegal. My best test was sitting at stop light across from police cruiser yesterday and he didn't seem to care. Not saying you are wrong, just testing the waters since I have them installed. If I do run into trouble I can just unplug them from fuse box and make them turn signals instead. We shall see.
What you get pulled over for, and what's actually legal can be two different things.

So now you believe halo lights are a safety hazard to others? Well then you should post that as your feelings on this. I did consider safety and noticed they are DOT approved but hey if you just want to win the discussion good for you..
This is 100% correct. Federally regulated, BLUE and RED do not belong on the front of any vehicle except emergency vehicles. Although DOT is Federal Regulations, it is state handled.
KC highlites have excellent led lights but they are not cheap like the eBay ones most people gravitate to.
Yes, I believe non-authorized colors could be a distraction to other drivers, which would make it a safety hazard. That's why there are laws concerning such things.

I would also bet money that somewhere on the box or instructions, it says something about checking state and/or local laws for running non-standard colored lights. Or for show and off road use only. Whether the headlights are DOT or not.
There can't be a law for everything (or every color), so the code is written like this.
(c) Unless otherwise expressly authorized by this Code, all other lighting or combination of lighting on any vehicle shall be prohibited.
